Any meeting or activity where a group is present can benefit from having a person present who makes sure they agree on what they are trying to accomplish, take steps that accomplish those goals, and confirm what they have achieved at the end of the conversation. Skilled facilitators use many techniques to help guide the group to help them achieve their goals, without steering the conversation in a particular direction. That is, a facilitator manages the method of the meeting, not the content of the meeting.

A hindrance or obstruction to getting something done. In Scrum, frequently used to describe some issue or blocker that is preventing a team from making progress on a work item. Also used in a broader organizational sense to describe anything that can potentially slow or stop progress.
